FamiliesJuly 3, 2001 -- Went to a family reunion in South Dakota -- all the McGregors decended from my Grandparents' brood of 13. Over 150 people attended, all of them my cousins, cousins' kids, or their grandkids or great-grandkids. (Those who married into the family were invited, but the smart ones, like my hubby, all found an excuse not to attend.) We ate Jambalaya and cheesecake, talked about the family history, and had an all around good time. I flew there with my 84-year-old dad, Ned Heathershaw, one of the married-ins who couldn't find a good excuse to avoid the party. He and mom were married for 51 years, and next to my Aunt Mae, he was one of the oldest guests. My sister, Jeanne, and her husband, Jerry Matteson, met us there and stayed at the same hotel. The best part about traveling with Dad is hearing all the old (and mostly long forgotten) stories about growing up in South Dakota during the early 1900s. One of these days I'm going to videotape him to get some of those stories saved for future generations.
